HOLLAND MEETS BELGIUM Despite the fact that the woodlice families ate more strawberries than we did (see previous post), we had a delicious lunch in a beautifully nostalgic rural setting: the laundry is clean too ;-).⠀ ⠀ One of the many great things about our work for the Bread Project (@breadprojectworldwide) is not only that we meet inspiring bakers from all over the world, but that we are almost always given a delicious fresh bread to taste. Like in this case, a sourdough spelt bread from Egtbrood (@egtbrood) in Belgium we enjoyed for lunch with our own Dutch strawberries grown at home. STRAWBERRY PANIC Not prepared to use chemicals on edible crops to control woodlice eating our strawberries, I am faced with a real strawberry problem. I pick them in the morning to prepare breakfast, but the woodlice enjoyed them even more and dig themselves right in, whole families I've seen! I may try beer traps, but maybe I should start using hanging baskets to grow our strawberries next year. WORK [swipe for more] You asked me to share more about my work as a freelance photographer and designer. A few days ago, I told you about the development of a logo and a color palette. Today a story about flexibility. Mental flexibility. Because that is necessary in my work. Take yesterday. We make an appointment to photograph a bakery. Things went a little differently, our appointment had been forgotten and there turned out to be a different baking schedule than we were told beforehand, but we met with a great baker (thank you Denise!) who was willing to think along with us. After more than 3 hours of driving we could have reacted disappointed, but together with the bakers we made it a wonderful afternoon. And after we braved downpours and went looking for a cafe, there was 'De Kwaakvos' ('the frog'), a cozy no-nonsense cafe with again very nice staff. BELGIUM Who says you need sunshine to photograph Domain Bokrijk? We couldn't enjoy ginger tea on this location, but between the downpours we had the largest open-air museum in Belgium for ourselves, almost. Over one hundred authentic buildings sketch a captivating vision of the life in the Flemish countryside long, long ago. I especially enjoyed the way the photos were exhibited. So when we finished our work for the Bread project (@breadprojectworldwide), we alternated shelter from the showers with beautiful vistas in an impressive park.
